Coasteering in Pembrokeshire, Wales.

Our Coasteering is an adventurous sea level exploration of the wild and beautiful Pembrokeshire coast. During this unique adventure sport, you will experience the exhilaration of sea level traversing, rock climbing, cliff jumping and wild swimming while exploring the sea caves, coves and bays of the Pembrokeshire Coastal environment. We also have a look at some of the creatures that live in this wild environment and how they have adapted to survive in such a dynamic habitat… We can learn a lot from these little guys.

The sections of the Pembrokeshire coast that we have on our doorstep are perfect for the unique adventure sport of Coasteering, in fact this is the birth place of the sport as we know it today. No two Coasteers are ever the same, with conditions changing with the tide, the weather, the swell direction and swell size, with these ever changing elements in mind we choose the best location for Coasteering on each day. We also adapt our sessions depending on what you would like to get out of it, with an emphasis on either cliff jumping, bouldering, wild swimming, cave exploration, rock scrambling, and white water swimming, normally a healthy balance of all of these elements.
At The Real Adventure Company, we offer a range of Coasteering experiences, from a half-day session on our adventures days, our full day coasteer challenge.  Or why not get some mates together and make a weekend of it. Maybe even mix it up with a bit of Surfing or Sea Kayaking.

The Real Adventure Company is a member of The National Coasteer Committee and is signed up to the National Trust concordat, allowing us to use their wild and pristine coastal properties that are located close by, for our Coasteering adventures. This means we can take you to the best venues for rugged sea cliffs, secluded coves, amazing sea caves, stacks and natural rock arches, not to mention the amazing and beautiful coastal wildlife: sea birds, wild flowers and of course the Atlantic grey seals, who seem as curious as to what we are up to as we are about them.

A brief history of coasteering

Coasteering has its origins in the late 19th century and historically has been used as an alternative description for sea-level traversing.

Although all aspects of Coasteering have been informally practised by people for a very long time, if only as a means of accessing a cut-off cove beyond a headland, the term appears first to have been used in 1973. In a prescient vision in the book ‘Sea Cliff Climbing’, John Cleare and Robin Collomb said “A few enthusiasts believe that Coasteering will become popular and has a big future”. How right they were! I know my family Coasteered in the 1940’s they called it going along the bottom. It was as modern day equipment became readily available the sport evolved into what it is today.

In the 1980’s and 90’s Coasteering exploded into the public domain as a commercially guided recreational activity here on the Pembrokeshire coastline. Our Guides have been leading Coasteering adventures in Pembrokeshire for over 25 years.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

This was the best bit of our already brilliant week in Pembrokeshire! Our guide and owner Pete was fantastic; experienced, knowledgeable and fun! He took time to help me out (it was our first time Coasteering) and we had a great time jumping in and finding little whirlpools to crash around in. We also learnt a great deal about the wildlife from Pete’s extensive knowledge of the area. All the equipment provided is high quality and we even get a lift down to the rocks in a mini bus. I’d recommend this to anyone thinking of doing Coasteering who is feeling a little nervous, don’t be, it’s great! There are a few companies to choose from in the area; we found this one the best as it was a better price, there was transport down to the beach – so more time in the water and Pete was so passionate and experienced, we get a more bespoke coasteer than bigger companies could provide. Thank you so much for a great day! Go for it!
